DJIA -62.05 (-0.43%) to 14,452.06; S&P 500 -8.60 (-0.55%) to 1,552.10; NASDAQ -11.48 (-0.35%) to 3,237.59 I do not believe I have had a conversation about Cyrus in many years and if I remember correctly the last and only other time I did was with someone who had a vacation condo/villa there.  Otherwise I will now add today as the next time Cyprus was a topic of discussion as fears regarding their financial situation took the headlines.  Is the concern about Cyprus itself, no I do not believe so.  The fear is first the reminder of some EU country’s conditions and this just…

DJIA -25.03 (-0.17%) to 14,514.11; S&P 500 -2.53 (-0.16%) to 1,560.70; NASDAQ -9.86 (-0.30%) to 3,249.07 Finally a down day!  After 10 straight days higher the Dow and S&P 500 finally has a respite albeit small.  Some looking at the SPY today might have thought the markets were lower or noticed a disruption and that is due to the fact that the SPY pays a dividend which it went ex-dividend Friday for roughly $0.70. In economic data we had CPI which came in slightly hot with a 0.7% increase when 0.5% was expected.  When looking at the “core” PCI we met expectations of up…

DJIA +83.86 (+0.58%) to 14,539.14; S&P 500 +8.71 (+0.56%) to 1,563.23; NASDAQ +13.81 (+0.43%) to 3,258.93 Nothing much happened today, another day another Dow high, you know, the usual.  Today at the close actually would not have been a bad spot to try and take a small short as a spec trade into tomorrow.  Nothing big, nothing saying a top is in but just 10 straight days up in the Dow is somewhat extended. Economic data today included U.S. jobless claims which came in lower than expected at 332K. Stock of the day today was E-Trade Financial (ETFC) which lost over 8% after…

This is not actually surprising action for where the markets have been.  We are up roughly 9% YTD on the SPY (S&P 500 SPDR ETF) and nearly 11%…

(Update officially published to site 3/12/13) DJIA +50.22 (+0.35%) to 14,447.29; S&P 500 +5.04 (+0.32%) to 1,556.22; NASDAQ +8.50 (+0.26%) to 3,252.87 Today the market continued along its climb even amidst some negative economic data abroad.  We had no major US economic news or data on the table so anything could have driven the move but with a lack of true catalyst it seemed the market was happy to continue along it’s recent path of higher.  We still have the negative divergence on the MACD but as I have noted before, negative divergence is not a signal itself and only…

Time Warner (TWX) was in the news as they announced plans to spin off its Time Inc. publishing division.  TWX expects the new entity to be trading before…
