DJIA -49.84 (-0.36%) to 13,860.58; S&P 500 -3.85 (-0.26%) to 1,498.11; NASDAQ -0.18 (-0.01%) to 3,142.13 Today’s action all maintained in a narrow range as the market’s seem to be waiting for tomorrow’s non-farm payroll report.  We had Unemployment claims come in slightly above expectations but after factoring in the previous two weeks wide beats it all averages out to still be positive as of late.  We had other economic data and as always you can visit the Event’s Calendar for the release of economic data, scheduled meetings and other news that could move the market. With such a narrow day it…

DJIA -44.23 (-0.32%) to 13,910.19; S&P 500 -5.89 (-0.39%) to 1,501.95; NASDAQ -11.35 (-0.36%) to 3,142.31 Today the markets moved lower and more decisively so compared to that other down day this.  What was also interesting is that the Small Caps lead the way down and generally I like to see the Small Caps lead (along with the Techs if I can get them).  This still has to be taken in stride based on the current trend in place but the recent action definitely does highlight the need for a consolidation as I have been calling for and also that…

DJIA +72.49 (+0.52%) to 13,954.42; S&P 500 +7.66 (+0.51%) to 1,507.84; NASDAQ -0.64 (-0.02%) to 3,153.66 Early morning trading saw the S&P 500 futures down and sitting on the R1 pivot.  The pivot held and we started to rally until 10 am and the Consumer Confidence number came in cooler than expected.  The market started giving back earlier gains but quickly reverse and started to continue its climb finally closing up over 7 points but if you look at the futures, the S&P rallied from its lows around 7am EST to the close roughly 14 points. Stock of the day…

DJIA –14.05 (-0.10%) to 13,881.93; S&P 500 -2.78 (-0.18%) to 1,500.18; NASDAQ +4.59 (+0.15%) to 3,154.30 I had to blink twice and rub my eyes but it was true that the S&P 500 closed lower.  The Dow followed suit but AAPL finally having an up day helped the Nasdaq manage to eek out a small gain.  Now before we get crazy, this was a near 3 point down day on the S&P after 8 straight days of moving higher.  I have been looking for some consolidating which really hasn’t come to fruition.  Any pullbacks still look to be greater opportunities…

DJIA +70.65 (+0.51%) to 13,895.98; S&P 500 +8.14 (+0.54%) to 1,502.96; NASDAQ +19.33 (+0.62%) to 3,149.71 Leading the major indexes higher today was the Nasdaq, even with AAPL being down over 2%.  There was not a great deal of economic news but New Home sales for came in lower than expected but the previous month was adjusted well higher.  At this point the market seems to be unshaken and seems to be saying that it is going higher until something substantive unseats it.  At the same time, Art Hogan, market strategist at Lazard Capital Markets pointed out that we are up…

DJIA +46.00 (+0.33%) to 13,825.33; S&P 500 +0.01 (+0.00%) to 1,494.82; NASDAQ -23.29 (-0.74%) to 3,130.38 As expected the Nasdaq lagged today because of Apple Computers (AAPL) and their lack luster earnings results (or at least not up to expectations).  Otherwise the S&P 500 probably couldn’t have shown any more indecision closing higher by 1 penny and likely continuing to showcase that it needs a pause/pullback to refresh.  What was positive for the market was to see the Small caps lead and again we got a second straight week of better than expected Unemployment data coming in at 330K. Apple…

Apple (AAPL) clearly is driving discussion after the close and it…

DJIA +62.51 (+0.46%) to 13,712.21; S&P 500 +6.58 (+0.44%) to 1,492.56; NASDAQ +8.47 (+0.27%) to 3,143.18 Today was an interesting day.  4 Dow names reported before the bell but due t their mixed nature it didn’t seem to help provide any conviction either way so the market erred on the being down side.  After wavering for the early part of the day the S&P finally pressed into positive territory around lunch and then started a trek higher closing up over 6 points for the day.  In economic news, US existing home sales came in below estimates for December and the Richmond Fed Manufacturing survey looked to…

We did have good economic data announced but not in the U.S., China reported GDP growth f 7.9% in Q4 which helped take the full year growth to 7.8% which outpaced consensus analyst expectations (7.7%) and the government’s expectations (7.5%)….
