DJIA +48.92 (+0.32%) to 15,105.12; S&P 500 +6.73 (+0.41%) to 1,632.69; NASDAQ +15.36 (+0.52%) to 2,968.24 The market continues to grind higher during.  Today started with a gap lower which like many others in the past was quickly bought up and sent to new highs.  There was a brief downdraft late in the day sending the markets back down toward even on the day but yet again the bulls stepped in and not only regained all those late losses but again extended higher into the close.  Tomorrow we have  Unemployment claims and I show estimates at 333K with a reminder that last week’s number was the…

Daily Wrap

DJIA +59.98 (+0.41%) to 14,673.46; S&P 500 +5.54 (+0.35%) to 1,568.61; NASDAQ +18.54 (+0.67%) to 2,804.67 The markets opened today slightly higher and consolidating until just after noon EST when the market started to breakout and move strongly higher.  This rally lasted until around 3pm EST when the market topped and then started to sell of into the close. Stock of the day, or at least driving the headlines, was Herbalife (HLF) whose shares were halted which sparked discussion about Icahn and Ackman and what might be going on with the shares.  Ultimately the news was KPMG resigned as auditor amidst allegations of insider trading by one of…

Daily Wrap

DJIA +55.91 (+0.39%) to 14,511.73; S&P 500 +10.37 (+0.67%) to 1,558.71; NASDAQ +25.09 (+0.78%) to 3,254.19 Today caught me somewhat by surprise as last night I expected today to probably start muted and remain that way until the Fed announcement which could then lay way to some swings.  We got essentially the exact opposite.  A gap in the morning essentially went no where to and through the Fed announcement and Bernanke Q&A with then a few spikes and ultimately the SPY closed roughly where it opened. Speaking of the Fed statement, it was essentially the same as the previous statement minus some wording to acknowledge…

Daily Wrap

DJIA +5.22 (+0.04%) to 14,455.28; S&P 500 +2.04 (+0.13%) to 1,554.52; NASDAQ +2.80 (+0.09%) to 3,245.12 Early trading in the S&P was slightly lower but after noon EST made a move into the green and remained there for the remainder of the day.  Today was very reminiscent of the rally in general showing a strong sense of resilience and using any dips as buying opportunities.  If I had to point to something of worry it would likely be some of the volume which seems to be getting lighter in the index ETFs like the SPY.  Also the recent trading has left some indecision…

Daily Wrap

DJIA +125.95 (+0.89%) to 14,253.77; S&P 500 +14.59 (+0.96%) to 1,539.79; NASDAQ +42.10 (+1.32%) to 3,224.13 Up up and away the market went today with the Dow closing at record highs.  Starting the week I had the expectation that this week would be a consolidation week but then as Monday started, something bothered me.  The 4 hour emini S&P 500 chart.  It didn’t just look bullish it look destined to head higher.  I posted it over at StockTwits (WSConsensus) and again in my nightly recap.  The way the markets closed and also started the next day seemed to be confirming the pattern and…

Daily Wrap

DJIA -98.99 (-0.74%) to 13,251.97; S&P 500 -10.98 (-0.76%) to 1,435.81; NASDAQ -10.17 (-0.33%) to 3,044.36; Today started off like it was going to be a tight, low volume consolidation day that held the 76% fib but slightly after the lunch time lull the market started to move toward the lows of the day and then after 2pm est really picked up speed to the downside.  We closed just above the prior resistance and now theoretical support of 1434. General Motors (GM) is a stock of the day today reminiscent of a previous stock of the day AIG because GM…
