Index & Sector performance 9/24/13 The Market: The S&P 500 came into the day trying to snap a 3 day losing streak with even the smallest of gains but was unable to and after spending some time in positive territory, eventually lost ground and closed down for the 4th day in a row. In economic news the Case Shiller Index showed prices come in at the expected 12.4% increase year over year and slightly above expectations with a 1% month over month reading.  Richmond Manufacturing was well below expectations but generally not considered significant to the market and Consumer Confidence…

DJIA +21.73 (+0.14%) to 15,324.53;S&P 500 +6.05 (+0.37%) to 1,654.41;NASDAQ +17.01 (+0.57%) to 3,011.83 After the Unemployment claims number came in slightly higher than expected the futures started to sell off in the pre-market but that soon turned and by the open we were slightly positive and then rallied higher for the remainder of the day until roughly 2:30 pm EST when the highs were seen and we drifted lower into the close.  As noted in economic news Unemployment claims rose to $354K and 1st quarter GDP slightly disappointed with a 2.4% reading down from 2.5%. DJIA +106.98 (+0.83%) to 12,985.11; S&P 500 +10.99 (+0.79%) to 1,409.93; NASDAQ +23.99 (+0.81%) to 2,991.78; Today’s action began with a drop in the market which rallied back to even by noon time and then pressed higher for the remainder of the day.  The lows of the day correlated nicely with the 38% fib from the lows of 11/16 to the highs on 11/23 as well as the 200 Day SMA all coming in around 1384.
