Global unrest helps fuel market decline
Index & Sector performance 7/17/14 The Market: Broad based sell off today saw all 5 (S&P 500 equal weight index (RSP) added today) major indices from the WSC Scoreboard finish over 1% lower except the Dow (DIA) which managed to only lose 0.85%. No surprise leading the way to the downside was again the Russell 2000 (IWM) which is now solidly down for the year and underperforming the S&P 500 (SPY) by 8.5% and the NASDAQ (QQQ) by 10%. The double top in the IWM which we started discussing over a week ago is now more pronounced and as a…
Nasdaq & Russell lead indices lower
Index & Sector performance 4/25/14 The Market: All the major indices were down in Friday’s action with the Nasdaq 100 (QQQ) and Russell 2000 (IWM) leading the way lower. In individual sectors the Transportation index (IYT) and Consumer Discretionary (XLY) were the biggest losers. The transports are an interesting case as they were one of the sectors making new highs recently but after an outside day yesterday the index followed through strongly to the downside today. Leading the index lower was JetBlue (JBLU) closing down 5.38%. After missing EPS yesterday, Reuters announced today that the Flight attendants will be looking…
3 strong days higher
Index & Sector performance 4/1/14 The Market: Today’s early action targeted our highlighted region from last night’s update of $1875ES and then pulled back to support near $1870ES. Later in the day the market made another rally toward and pressed through $1875ES and now resides above in the after hours session. While we are starting to see some intraday negative divergences develop on the market which provide some caution to the recent strong 3 day rally, we fully expect the S&P 500 emini to challenge the highlighted resistance region of $1884-90ES in overnight or early morning trading. From there we…

Index & Sector performance 12/11/13 The Market: Strong down day in the market with the S&P 500, Nasdaq and Russell 2000 closing down over 1%. The Russell 2000 has been leading the charge for the year but has underperformed of late including today posting the largest loss at 1.64%. After remaining relatively unchanged in overnight and early morning trading, the market started to slip in the pre-market about an hour before the open. Losses built the remainder of the day with the S&P 500 closing near the lows of the day and through the 20 Day SMA. In economic news…
Daily Wrap
DJIA -81.45 (-0.56%) to 14,537.14; S&P 500 -10.40 (-0.67%) to 1,541.61; NASDAQ -40.03 (-1.44%) to 2,741.95 Today was another strong down day but had more back and forth than previous sessions. Stocks started the day slightly positive following up on an Unemployment claims number that wasn’t necessarily bullish but also and maybe more importantly wasn’t bearish and came in relatively inline with estimates. Those early gains gave way and at the lows the S&P 500 cash index was down roughly 16 points. Overall the action was not like previous sessions and it did feel as though the market is trying to set-up for…
Daily Wrap
DJIA -42.47 (-0.30%) to 13,944.05; S&P 500 -2.73 (-0.18%) to 1,509.39; NASDAQ -3.35 (-0.11%) to 3,165.13 Apple Computers (AAPL) was thrust back in the news and by an interesting party on what I found an interesting story. David Einhorn of Greenlight Capital stated that a legal action has been initiated against AAPL over the company’s refusal to unbundled three corporate governance proposals. AAPL states that the action would break SEC rules. Essentially what Einhorn really wants is for AAPL to start giving its stockpile of cash back to investors and is suggesting they do so by creating preferred stock that…
