Index & Sector performance 4/23/14 The Market: Today’s session snapped a 6 day winning streak for the S&P 500 but the losses were small and maintained a very orderly structure throughout the day. In after hours trading, the futures traded sharply higher helped by Apple’s (AAPL) earnings which beat EPS and revenue along with announcing a 7 for 1 stock split, increase in the buyback, and an 8% increase in the dividend. Index & Sector performance 4/10/14 The Market: Today the market not only took back the gains realized yesterday off the FOMC minutes but also the gains from Tuesday’s session leaving fresh closing lows for the week on a roughly 40 point down day in the S&P 500. With only one day remaining in the week, it will be very interesting to see how trader’s position tomorrow ahead of the weekend. Index & Sector performance 10/30/13 The Market: A small gap up on the open was quickly sold and the market pulled back but losses were relatively contained until the Fed announcement which sent the S&P spiking lower. Buyers did then step in and used the last hour of trading to help close the index off the lows but not enough to keep from snapping the S&P 500’s 4 day win streak. In economic news, ADP Non-Farm came in lower than expected printing a 130K with 151K the expectation. Core CPI was also light coming in at 0.1% when 0.2% was…

DJIA +59.98 (+0.41%) to 14,673.46; S&P 500 +5.54 (+0.35%) to 1,568.61; NASDAQ +18.54 (+0.67%) to 2,804.67 The markets opened today slightly higher and consolidating until just after noon EST when the market started to breakout and move strongly higher. This rally lasted until around 3pm EST when the market topped and then started to sell of into the close. Stock of the day, or at least driving the headlines, was Herbalife (HLF) whose shares were halted which sparked discussion about Icahn and Ackman and what might be going on with the shares.
