Choppy trading leaves the indices flat

Index & Sector performance 2/26/14 The Market: A choppy trading session to saw a sell off toward the open which ultimately was bought until midday when the S&P started to make its way back down toward and below the previous intraday lows.  Again buyers stepped in and were able to close the S&P 500 essentially flat on the day.     Companies scheduled to report earnings pre-market:     Analyst Comments:        

Small Caps lead move lower

Index & Sector performance 12/11/13 The Market: Strong down day in the market with the S&P 500, Nasdaq and Russell 2000 closing down over 1%.  The Russell 2000 has been leading the charge for the year but has underperformed of late including today posting the largest loss at 1.64%.  After remaining relatively unchanged in overnight and early morning trading, the market started to slip in the pre-market about an hour before the open.  Losses built the remainder of the day with the S&P 500 closing near the lows of the day and through the 20 Day SMA. Slow grind higher continues

Index & Sector performance 12/9/13 The Market: Another slow grinding day with a bias higher.  It is yet to be seen if this is a consolidation for a next leg higher or exhaustion with a leg lower to come.  To catch the most amount of people off guard the market could look to pop higher first to finish and then start a strong quick decline. There was no economic data today but there was Fed speak from FOMC member Bullard.  Bullard was a QE3 supporter and noted his stance that any Fed action is data dependent.  The increase in jobs…

DJIA -206.04 (-1.35%) to 15,112.19;S&P 500 -22.88 (-1.39%) to 1,628.93;NASDAQ -36.59 (-1.22%) to 2,959.50 You are likely living under a rock if you were not aware that today was rate decision and FOMC minute day.  It was not about the rate decision itself as no one I heard was anticipating a move but it was all about the minutes and specifically the discussion of when the stimulus would end or the key word of recent times “tapered”.  The decision and comments sent the markets tumbling and closed down over 22 points in the S&P and 200 on the Dow.  In the grand scheme…

DJIA -59.98 (-0.46%) to 12,965.60; S&P 500 -6.72 (-0.47%) to 1,409.46; NASDAQ -8.04 (-0.27%) to 3,002.20; Today started with a small gap higher but by 10am we had lost the highs and never regained them for the rest of the day finally drifting into negative territory after lunch and pressing near lows at the close.  We had some economic data today but the number talked about the most was the weak ISM which came in at 52.5 and while estimates can be different around Wall Street we saw 54.3 as the consensus.  Oh yeah and then those people in Washington…
